Effective May 18th, 2017, HRI will no longer employ Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) directly. All existing GRAs with anticipated employment beyond May 18th, 2017, will be transitioned to The Research Foundation for SUNY (SUNYRF) at the University at Albany. HRI will issue SUNYRF a subcontract for each HRI award that provides funding for a University at Albany GRA based on relative benefit to the award. The subcontract will cover GRA salaries, fringe, and indirect costs as charged by SUNYRF. HRI grant administrators will rebudget the necessary funds out of salary, fringe and indirect and redirect to the subaward line. The grant administrator will also fill out all the necessary paperwork to lessen the administrative burden of this transition.

If a sponsor requires prior approval to add a subcontract to an existing project, HRI grant administrators will work with Principal Investigators (PIs) to create and submit a prior approval request. For all future grant applications, GRAs will be budgeted to the Contractual line with SUNY RF as the named subcontractor.

For the SUNYRF subcontract, the PI at the School of Public Health will be Dr. Kevin Williams and the HRI PI will be the Co-Investigator. PIs for SUNY RF subcontracts outside of the School of Public Health will be determined based on SUNY School or Department.

The HRI Human Resources department will issue a separate e-mail to current GRAs explaining the planned transition.

Please note that this applies to GRAs only and does not affect hourly student interns.
